Dodgers 8- Tigers 4
The Dodgers maintained sole possession of the of the National League lead by defeating the Tigers 8-4 on Saturday. The Dodgers scored all of their runs in the first 3 frames. Sam Markham put the Dodgers on the board in the first inning with a 2 run double. The Dodgers added 5 runs in the second inning. Trevor Foss dealt the big blow, a 2 out, 2 run double that put the Dodgers up 7-0. Matt Weaver drove in the final Dodger run with a 1 out single in the third.
The Tigers cut into the Dodger lead with a pair of runs in the 4th. Steve Sauerzopf singled and was later driven in by Tyler Uschan. Justin Schwankler also scored in the inning on a blistering ground ball to short that bad hopped Dodger shortstop Pete Loizzo. In the 5th, Jake Schliegle singled and scored on a double by Drew Eichstaedt. Eichstaedt scored on a fielder's choice by Brandon Garecht.
The Dodgers sent 6 different pitchers to the mound. Impressively, the sextet issued only one walk while striking out 11. The most impressive mound performance was turned in by Sam Markham. The hard throwing right hander struck out all 3 batters he faced.
The Dodgers hit a tough stretch in their schedule, facing the American League leading Yankees on Wednesday, and the hot hitting Braves on Thursday.
