Dodgers 8 - Cardinals 2
Strong pitching was the order of the day for the Dodgers in their 8-2 victory over the Cardinals Friday night. Tanner Davis held the Cardinals scoreless for the first 3 innings. Davis allowed a base runner in each inning with 2 walks and a hit batter, but didn't yield a hit. Davis was also the beneficiary of some steady defense, getting 5 ground ball outs. Trevor Foss followed with 2 strong innings of his own. Foss gave up 2 unearned runs in the 4th when the Dodgers defense temporarily lapsed. Foss took matters into his own hands striking out the final 2 batters he faced in the inning. Foss ended with 4 strikeouts on the day. Cam Hanson worked through the heart of the Cardinal order in the 6th to preserve the win for the Dodgers. Hanson added 2 strikeouts to the Dodger total for the game.
Sam Markham led off the second for the Dodgers with a single to center, Markham's 12th hit in his last 15 at bats. Matt Weaver followed with a walk. A misplayed ground ball off the bat of Chris Petranek allowed the first 2 Dodger runs to score. The Dodgers then sent 10 men to the plate in the 3rd while scoring 5 times. Trevor Foss delivered the big blow with a 2 RBI, bases loaded single up the middle. Petranek drove in another run in the inning on a fielder's choice. Markham scored the final Dodger run in the 5th. Markham walked, then Matt Weaver hit a ground rule double to right, his second in as many games. Another misplayed ground ball hit by Chris Petranek brought Markham home.
According to the AP wire, Cardinal pitcher Bobby Vriezen was compulsorily inducted into an elite pitchers' club earlier in the week. He should be receiving his free lifetime membership card SOON.
